2009 Little East Conference Women's Tennis All-Conference Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College was well represented when the 2009 Little East Women's Tennis All-Conference Team was announced. Four stellar BSC student-athletes earned the recognition with their remarkable play on the tennis court.
Seniors Catarina Rosa (Fall River, MA) and Paulina Ucher (Webster, MA) were acknowledged for their performance in singles competition as they were selected to the All-Little East Second Team at the third and fourth flights respectively. Rosa and sophomore Julie Kraby (Wrentham, MA) were named to the second team at the third doubles flight, while Ucher and junior Rachel Elman (Rehoboth, MA) earned second team honors at number two doubles.
Rosa was selected to the all-conference team in singles play for the second straight season as she was named to the first team in 2008 out of the fourth flight. Rosa had a remarkable campaign in 2009 with an overall record of 12-4 in singles competition with a 9-3 mark at the third flight.
The Bears number three doubles team of Rosa and Kraby teamed for an outstanding season as they finished 11-1 in doubles competition with a 10-1 record at the third flight. Rosa was also an All-Little East selection in third doubles play a season ago as she earned first team honors along with former BSC tennis standout, Paula Araujo.
Ucher posted an overall mark of 10-3 in singles competition to go along with an impressive 9-1 record competing out of the fourth flight. This marks the second consecutive season in which she earned All-Little East status as she was a first team honoree at number five singles in 2008. Ucher was also the Little East Champion at fourth flight singles in 2007.
Ucher and Elman finished 11-2 in doubles competition this season, all at the second flight. The duo have teamed up each of the last three campaigns and recorded a 29-8 record during that span. Ucher and Elman were also named to the Little East All-Conference Team in 2008 out of the second flight, and were conference champions in 2007.
The BSC women's tennis team posted an overall match record of 12-4 to go along with a 4-3 mark in conference play. Seeded third in the Little East Tournament, Bridgewater defeated number six Southern Maine, 5-3, and second seed Salem State College, 5-1, to advance to the conference championship match. The Bears, however, ended their season with a 5-3 loss to top seed Western Connecticut State University in the title match.
