CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Three school records fell as the Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team competed during the second day of the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships held at the MIT Alumni Pool.
Senior Haley Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) broke her own school record and garnered All-NEISDA honors in the 500 freestyle. Nolan posted a time of 5:17.46 to place third in the event as she eclipsed her previous mark of 5:20.14 set last season at the NEISDA Championships.
Junior Megan Bonney (Hoffman Estates, Ill.) knocked off a 16-year old record in the 50 freestyle as she placed fourth with a time of 24.90 seconds. Bonney broke the previous mark of 25.00 seconds set by Jessica Busch in 2003. Classmate Mackenzie Coogan (Assonet, Mass.) finished right behind Bonney in the 50 free with a time of 24.95 seconds.
Nolan, Bonney, Coogan and sophomore Allison Hunt (Norton, Mass.) eclipsed the BSU school record in the 200 freestyle relay as they placed fourth in the event with a time of 1:40.61. The foursome bettered the previous mark of 1:42.37 set last season at the NEISDA Championships.
The Bears are currently in fifth place in the team standings with 326 points. The four-day championships meet continues on Saturday morning with the preliminary round getting underway at ten.
