2011 MASCAC All-Conference Women's Soccer Team (PDF)
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Three Bridgewater State University student-athletes have been voted to the 2011 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Soccer All-Conference Team by the league's head coaches.
Junior defender Melanie Thomson (Abington, Mass.) earned first team honors, while senior midfielder Jade Kluver (Westerly, R.I.) and senior forward Amber LaPorte (New Hartford, Conn.) were named to the second team. All three are making their first appearance on the All-MASCAC Team.
Thomson had a terrific first season at BSU after transferring from Northeastern University. She anchored a defensive until that helped the Bears post eight shutouts as well as a 1.05 team goals against average. Thomson was also an offensive threat from the backfield as she tallied three goals and three assists for nine points.
Kluver started all 19 games in her first season playing collegiate soccer as she quickly evolved into one of the top players in the conference. She scored two goals and added a pair of assists for a total of six points from the midfield position.
LaPorte led the Bears with eight goals in 2011 and tied for the team-lead in scoring with 17 points. She also tied for the MASCAC lead in game-winning goals with an impressive five. In four seasons at Bridgewater State, LaPorte amassed 13 goals and three assists for 29 points.
The Bridgewater State women's soccer team posted a record of 11-7-1 on the season and captured a share of the MASCAC regular season title with a 5-2 conference mark. Seeded third in the MASCAC Tournament the Bears lost to eventual champion Westfield State in the semifinals.
