Bears Place Five on All-MASCAC Women's Soccer Team

2009 MASCAC Women's Soccer All-Conference Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College was well represented as the 2009 Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's All-Conference Team was revealed with five BSC student-athletes being named to the team.

Seniors Yasmina Carvalho (Brockton, MA) and Christine Soucy (Rockland, MA) were named to the All-MASCAC First Team, while fellow seniors Jacklyn Wisocky (Brockton, MA) and Ashley Hersey (Newburyport, MA) as well as freshman Jillian Herr (Saugus, MA) were Second Team selections.

The 2009 BSC women's soccer team posted an overall record of 8-8-2 and a conference mark of 3-3-1.  The Bears won their final three conference matches to earn the fourth seed in the MASCAC Tournament.  The team's season came to an end in the semifinal round of the tournament with tough 2-1 loss to top seed Westfield State.

Soucy was selected to the All-MASCAC First Team for the second time in her career, as she also earned the recognition as a sophomore in 2007.  Soucy tied for the team lead in assists this season with six and finished third in scoring with 14 points and fourth in goals with four.  In 69 games over four seasons, Soucy registered 14 goals and 19 assists for 47 points.  She is tied for third all-time at BSC in career assists along with Lisa Allen (1991-94), and is also tenth in scoring.

Known for her outstanding play as a defender, Carvalho picked up her third consecutive All-MASCAC honor and her second straight first team selection.  She scored three goals this season with two of them being game-winners.  She played in 61 games over her four-year career with the Bears and finished with three goals and an assist for seven points.

Wisocky, Hersey and Herr all earned their first career All-MASCAC honor.  Wisocky led the team in goals with seven, in game-winning goals with three and in points with 16.  She has played in 53 games since joining the Bears after her freshman year and has totaled 13 goals, nine assists and 35 points.  Hersey tied for the team lead, along with Soucy, in assists with six and added five goals for 16 points.  She has 10 goals and 26 points in her two seasons on the BSC women's soccer team.   Herr made her presence known, starting all 18 games in her first collegiate season.  She scored a goal and helped the team post four shutouts on the season as well as a team goals against average of 1.73.
