2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District One College Division Team
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State College senior forward Kaitlin Lamothe has been selected to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District One College Division Women's Soccer Third Team in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Lamothe, who majors in Health Education, was one of just two representatives from the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) voted to the regional team. She presently carries an impressive 3.52 grade point average as she has been a Dean's List student in each of her two semesters at Bridgewater State.
A native of Wrentham, Massachusetts, Lamothe leads the Bears with an impressive 43 points (18 goals, 7 assists), which is the third highest single-season total in Bridgewater State women's soccer history. BSC Hall of Famer Kathy Conley set the school mark with 48 points in 1992 and it was later equaled by Kim Rhodes in 2002. Lamothe also needs just one goal to equal Conley's school record-setting performance of 19 goals set back in 1992 as well.
In 14 games this season, Lamothe currently ranks second in the MASCAC in goals and points and is fourth in assists. She also ranks in the top ten in all of Division III in points and in goals scored as well.
In terms of career numbers, Lamothe is fourth all-time at Bridgewater State in scoring with 67 points (29 goals, 9 assists) despite having played just two seasons with the Bears. She transferred to BSC after playing one season at Division I Syracuse University.
Lamothe, who was a First Team All-MASCAC selection a year ago, has been named the MASCAC Player of the Week twice this season as well as ECAC Division III New England Offensive Player of the Week on two occasions.
The Bears head into the final game of the regular season with a record of 9-3-3 which includes a 5-1 MASCAC mark. BSC is currently tied for first place in the conference standings along with Westfield State. The Bears wrap up the regular season on Saturday at 10 AM as they travel to Mass. Maritime Academy to take on the Buccaneers.
Founded by CoSIDA in 1952, the Academic All-America and All-District Teams program recognizes and awards our nation's premier college scholar-athletes for their ability to achieve excellence on the playing field and in the classroom.
Prior to Lamothe's selection, the last member of the BSC women's soccer program to be voted to a CoSIDA All-Academic Team was Kathleen Burke in 2001.
