Elisha Homich Named NEWBA Co-Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior guard Elisha Homich has been selected as the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) PrestoSports Co-Player of the Week.  Homich shares the weekly honor along with Babson College senior center Sarah Collins.

Homich averaged 24.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.3 steals in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears which included a pair of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) wins over Framingham State and Westfield State.  She also shot 57.1% (24-42) from the floor, 50.0% (10-20) from behind the arc and 94.1% (16-17) at the free throw.

A native of Ludlow, Massachusetts, Homich notched 26 points, four rebounds, three assists and five steals in BSU's 92-67 win at Framingham, and registered 24 points, three boards, eight assists and two blocked shots in a 72-58 non-conference victory at UMass Boston. She capped off the week with 24 points, five rebounds and two steals in the Bears' 63-47 win over Westfield.

Over the first 14 games of the 2012-2013 season, Homich is averaging 14.0 points to go along with 3.1 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 2.1 steals.  She is shooting 35.1% (27-77) from three-point range and 86.4% (57-66) at the free throw line.

Homich currently leads the MASCAC in free throw shooting and ranks third in assists.  She is also fourth in the conference in both three-point shooting and assist to turnover ratio (1.2), and is tied for eighth in scoring.

Despite missing almost all of last season due to injury, Homich has amassed 627 points, 203 rebounds, 224 assists and 145 steals over 66 career games. She is a career 37.7% (81-215) shooter from three-point range which is well above Kim Mooney's (1991-94) all-time program mark of 33% (101-306).

The BSU women's basketball is presently 12-2 on the season with a 3-0 mark in MASCAC play.  The Bears, winners of six straight games, host conference foe Worcester State on Thursday night (5:30) before travelling to MASCAC rival Salem State on Saturday afternoon (1:00).
