BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior guard Elisha Homich has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Homich averaged 17.0 points, 8.5 assists and 5.0 steals in a 2-0 week for the Bears with wins over MASCAC rivals MCLA and Fitchburg State University. The Ludlow, Massachusetts product shot 50% (7-for-14) from three-point range on the week and continued her impressive shooting at the free throw line as she was a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.
Homich notched 15 points and a career-high 13 assists (two off the school record) to go along with five steals in the Bears' 90-61 MASCAC win over MCLA. She capped off the week with 19 points, four rebounds, four assists and five steals in a 104-81 victory over Fitchburg State.
Through 18 games this season, Homich is averaging 15.3 points to go along with 3.2 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals. She is shooting 37.5% (39-for-104) from behind the arc and 87.1% (81-for-93) at the free throw line.
Homich currently leads the MASCAC in three-point shooting and free throw percentage and ranks second in assists. She is also fourth in the conference in both scoring and assist to turnover ratio (1.3), and is eighth in steals.
Despite missing almost all of last season due to injury, Homich has amassed 707 points, 218 rebounds, 251 assists and 159 steals over 70 career games. She is a career 38.4% (93-for-242) shooter from three-point range which is well above Kim Mooney’s (1991-94) all-time program mark of 33.0% (101-for-306).
The BSU women’s basketball team is presently 15-3 on the season and tied for first place in the MASCAC standing with a 6-1 conference mark. The Bears, winners of nine of their last ten games, host MASCAC foe Framingham State on Tuesday evening (5:30) before travelling to conference rival Westfield State on Saturday afternoon (1:00).
