Michaela Cosby Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior guard Michaela Cosby has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Cosby, who hails from Walpole, Massachusetts, notched 20 points, six rebounds, five assists and five steals in a 67-58 setback to the University of New England in the opening round of the 2013 NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Tournament this past Friday.

In 25 games during the 2012-2013 season, Cosby averaged 15.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.8 steals while shooting 50.7% (150-296) from the field and 71.4% (75-105) at the free throw line.  She finished third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage and assist to turnover ratio (1.3), and fourth in assists.  Cosby also ranks sixth in the conference in scoring, eighth in steals, ninth in free throw shooting and tenth in rebounds.

An two-time All-MASCAC First Team selection (2012, 2013), Cosby amassed 1,092 points, 563 rebounds, 262 assists, 226 steals and 47 blocked shots over 101 career games. The Bears' captured back-to-back-to-back MASCAC Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament in each of her last three seasons with the team.  Cosby ranks seventh all-time in BSU women’s basketball history with her 1,092 points.

The BSU women's basketball team posted a record of 23-4 in 2012-2013 with an 11-1 mark in MASCAC play.  The 23 victories marked the second highest single-season win total in program history.  The Bears captured their third straight MASCAC Tournament title and earned a third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament (fourth in the last six years) with an 85-72 come-from-behind victory over Westfield State University in the MASCAC title game.
