Michaela Cosby Named MASCAC Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior guard Michaela Cosby has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Cosby shares the weekly honor along with MCLA senior guard Lucy Tremblay.

Cosby averaged 17.3 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.3 steals to lead the Bears to a perfect 3-0 week including the championship of the Hampton Inn/Naismith Classic where she was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player.  The Walpole, Massachusetts native shot 62.9% (22-35) from the floor and 77.8% (7-9) at the free throw line for the week.

Cosby tallied 21 points, seven rebounds (five offensive), three assists and two steals in a 56-53 semifinal win over Eastern Connecticut State, and notched 15 points, seven boards, four assists, a block and a steal in the Bears' 75-51 championship game victory over host Springfield.  She capped off the week with 16 points, ten rebounds (four offensive), seven assists and four steals in a 90-47 conference-opening triumph at Fitchburg State.

Over the first 11 games of the 2012-2013 season, Cosby is averaging 14.8 points to go along with 7.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.4 steals.  She is shooting 52.9% (66-125) from the floor and 71.8% (28-39) at the free throw line.

Cosby currently ranks third in the MASCAC in field goal percentage, fifth in scoring, sixth in rebounds, eighth in assists, ninth in steals and tenth in free throw shooting.  She is also tied for fourth in assist to turnover ratio (1.3).

An All-MASCAC First Team selection in 2011-2012, Cosby has amassed 877 points, 500 rebounds, 213 assists, 182 steals and 43 blocked shots over 87 career games. The Bears' captured back-to-back MASCAC Tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament during her sophomore and junior seasons.

The BSU women's basketball team is presently 9-2 on the season with a 1-0 mark in MASCAC play.  The Bears travel to conference foe Framingham State on Tuesday night (6:00) to take on the Rams, and then head to UMass Boston on Thursday evening (5:00) for a non-league game with the Beacons.  The Bears return home for only the second time this season when they entertain MASCAC rival Westfield State on Saturday afternoon (2:00).
