BRIIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman right-hander Kaitlyn Shaw has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Shaw went 3-1 with a complete game in six appearances for the Bears last week at The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. The Lakeville, Massachusetts native recorded a 3.21 earned run average and struck out 15 batters in 28 1/3 innings of work.
Shaw recorded all three wins for the Bears during the Florida trip. She allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with five strikeouts in a 13-2 season-opening victory over Johnson State College, and gave up four runs (two earned) on five hits with four punch-outs in a 6-4 triumph over Mount Ida College. Shaw also went the distance in BSU's 7-6 win over Catholic University as she fanned three.
The BSU softball team is currently 3-7 on the young season. Bridgewater's doubleheader on Friday versus Clark University has been postponed due to the impending winter storm.
