Brianna Strecker Named MASCAC Softball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. –Bridgewater State University senior catcher Brianna Strecker has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.

A native of Waterford, Connecticut, Strecker batted .467 (7-for-15) with a home run, two doubles, five stolen bases and six runs in a 5-1 week for the Bears.  She also recorded a .556 on base percentage.

Strecker went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and two stolen bases in the Bears’ MASCAC sweep of Worcester State on Patriots Day.  She capped off the week with a 4-for-5 performance at the plate with a pair of doubles, four runs scored and three stolen bases in a weekend conference sweep of Salem State.

In 30 games this season, Strecker is batting .333 (30-for-90) with a home run, three doubles, a triple, 28 runs scored and nine stolen bases.  She also posts a .422 slugging percentage and a .400 on base percentage.

Strecker leads the MASCAC in runs scored and ranks third in stolen bases and tenth in batting average.  She is also tied for fourth in the conference in hits and tied for sixth in at bats.

In 145 games over four seasons with the Bears, Strecker has a career batting average of .289 (118-for-409) with seven home runs, 20 doubles, 76 runs scored, 63 runs batted in and 25 stolen bases.  She has started 140 games behind the plate, including 135 in a row dating back to her freshman season of 2010.

The BSU softball team is currently 17-13 on the season and tied for first in the MASCAC standings with a 7-3 conference mark.  The Bears, who have won five of their last six games, travel to Mass. Maritime Academy on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Buccaneers in a conference twinbill starting at 3:30.
