BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior third baseman Jennifer Shaw has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Player of the Week.
A native of Brockton, Massachusetts, Shaw batted .550 (11-20) with five doubles, a home run, four walks, two stolen bases, seven runs scored and eight runs batted in during a 5-1 week for the MASCAC regular season champion Bears. She also posted a .950 slugging percentage as well as a .625 on base percentage.
Shaw went 3-for-5 with a double, a run, two walks and a stolen base in a non-league split with UMass Dartmouth, and was 6-for-9 at the plate with four doubles, a home run, a walk, a stolen base, five runs and eight RBI in a conference sweep of Mass. Maritime. She capped off the week by going 2-for-6 with a run and a walk in the Bears’ MASCAC clinching sweep of Framingham.
In 35 games this season, Shaw is batting .386 (39-101) with two home runs, ten doubles, 26 runs and 18 RBI. She leads the MASCAC in batting and slugging percentage (.545), and is tied for first in the conference in doubles. Shaw is also second in on base percentage (.452), tied for third in runs, tied for fourth in home runs and tied for eighth in RBI.
In 136 games over four seasons with the Bears, Shaw ranks fifth all-time in program history with a career .380 (141-371) batting average. She has also amassed 19 home runs, 32 doubles, 16 stolen bases, 92 runs scored and 97 RBI, and owns a career .631 slugging percentage and .446 on base percentage.
Shaw earned All-MASCAC First Team honors in both her sophomore and junior seasons and was named the MASCAC Player of the Year in 2012. She was also a Division III All-New England selection for three different organizations (ECAC, NFCA, NEISCA) in both 2011 and 2012.
Winners of seven of their last eight games, the BSU softball team is currently 22-14 (11-3 MASCAC) on the season. The top seed at this week’s MASCAC Tournament, the Bears have a first round bye and will host the remainder of the tournament on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
