Jim Simoneau became the head coach of the cross country programs in 2005. He was, however, no stranger to Bridgewater State as he had been an assistant on the BSU cross country and track coaching staffs for four seasons beginning in 2001. Coach Simoneau previously coached at La Salle Academy in Providence, Rhode Island for five seasons from 1989 to 1993.
Jim attended the University of Rhode Island for two years before transferring to Rhode Island College in 1985 where he earned a bachelors degree in Marketing. During his sophomore year at URI, he competed in cross country and track at the varsity level. Jim also just recently received his M.B.A. from Providence College in 2004.
Under his guidance in 2005, sophomore Avery Bouchard advanced to the NCAA Division III Championships and finished 69th overall in a field of the nation's top 215 Division III harriers. The following season, Nicole Mauro advanced to the women's national championship meet and finished in 135th place.
Stephen Wahome qualified for the NCAA Division III Championships in 2011 and placed 109th out of 279 runners.
Arguably the top distance runner in Bridgewater State history, Molly Rouillard finished 50th out of 277 runners at the 2012 NCAA Division III Championships. Rouillard capped off a phenomenal career in which she was named the MASCAC Runner of the Year in each of her three seasons with the team and was selected as the MASCAC Runner of the Week an impressive 16 times.
Coach Simoneau currently resides in Rhode Island, with his children, Rachel and Matthew. He is a controller at Coastal Recycling Inc. in Providence, Rhode Island.
