BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second straight week, Bridgewater State University sophomore Joshua Higgins has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
A native of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Higgins helped the Bears capture both the MASCAC and New England Alliance championships this past weekend as he won the MASCAC title in the 600-meter run with a MASCAC record time of 1:21.91.
Higgins, along with classmates Kyle Cordeiro (Westport, Mass.) and Lamont Haynes (Boston, Mass.), and senior Michael Kotleski (Great Barrington, Mass.), captured both the MASCAC and New England Alliance titles in the 4x400-meter relay. The foursome set a MASCAC meet record with a time of 3:25.40.
Higgins currently ranks fifth in New England in the 600 and seventh in the 800-meter run. He is also 21st in all of Division III in the 800. The Bears' distance medley relay squad, featuring Higgins, senior Joseph Kisamore (Attleboro, Mass.), junior Joseph Keough (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman John Lara (South Boston, Mass.), is presently ranked 22nd in Division III.
In upcoming action, qualifying members of the BSU men's indoor track & field team will compete at the Division III New England Championships held this coming Saturday at Middlebury College. Higgins will be competing in the 800 and the 4x400 at the meet.
