BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the second time this season Bridgewater State University senior Stephen Wahome has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.
Wahome helped lead the Bears to the MASCAC and New England Alliance Championships this past weekend. The Lowell, Massachusetts native captured MASCAC individual titles in both the 5,000-meter run and 10,000-meter run with times of 15:28.73 and 32.51.45, respectively. He also won the Alliance crown in the 10,000 and placed second in the 5,000.
The Lowell, Massachusetts native holds the Bears’ school record in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:17.02, which he set last year. He also owns two more individual indoor records in the 3,000 (8:43.21) and 5,000 (14:54.12) and is a part of three record-holding relay teams, two indoor (4x800, DMR) and one outdoor (4x800).
During the winter indoor season, Wahome won MASCAC individual titles in both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs. He also captured the MASCAC Men’s Cross Country title this past fall and advanced to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in 2011.
The outdoor season continues for Wahome and the BSU men’s track and field team as qualifying members of the team will compete at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Colby College.
