Michael McPherson Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Michael McPherson has been named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week.

McPherson led the Bears at the Wheaton Invitational this past weekend as placed first in both the shot put and weight throw.  The Mansfield, Massachusetts native posted a distance of 53 feet, 8.50 inches (16.37 meters) in the shot put and 52 feet, 8.75 inches (16.07 meters) in the weight throw.

McPherson broke his own school record in the shot put earlier this season at the UMass Boston Invitational and again the following week at the Harvard Open.  His mark of 55 feet, 8.50 inches (16.98 meters) currently ranks third in all of Division III for the 2012-2013 campaign.

In addition to his indoor shot put record, McPherson also presently holds BSU outdoor marks in the shot put (55'7.50") and hammer throw (172'2.00"). During the spring 2012 outdoor season, he earned All-America honors in the shot put by placing eighth at the NCAA Division III Championships in Claremont, California.

The indoor season continues for McPherson and the BSU men's track and field team on January 26th when the Bears compete at the BU Terrier Invitational.
