Men's Track & Field Places Third at Fitchburg State Eric Loeschner Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's outdoor track and field team placed third at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State University on Saturday.

The Bears finished with 94 points as they trailed on meet champion Tufts University (167 pts.) and Worcester State University (100.5 pts.) in the team standings.

Brian Espinosa (Rehoboth, Mass) won the long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 5.5 inches (7.15 meters), and placed second in the 100 with a time of 11.20 seconds.

Joshua Danner-Hicks won the triple jump with a school record-setting mark of 47 feet, 6.07 inches (14.48 meters). Danner-Hicks broke his own previous standard, set last year, of 47 feet, 2.25 inches. He also added a sixth place showing in the 100 with a time of 11.46 seconds.

The shot put had three Bears in the top four, as Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass) won the event, Stephan Cawley (Dedham, Mass) placed second, and Christian Lavoie (Marion, Mass) placed fourth. McPherson had a toss of 50 feet, 9.84 inches (15.49 meters). Cawley followed with a mark of 49 feet, 7.67 inches (15.13 meters). Lavoie finished with a throw of 42 feet, 6.62 (12.97 meters). Cawley also placed second in the discus with a mark of 145 feet, 11.18 inches (44.48 meters).

McPherson qualified for the Division III New England Championships in the hammer throw with a toss of 149 feet, 1.37 inches, placing seventh. Connor Foley (Foxborough, Mass) placed fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a Division III New England qualifying time of 10:06.80.

Kevin Sawyer (Woburn, Mass) placed fourth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.97.

Next week, the Bears host the MASCAC and New England Alliance Championships on Swenson Field.
