BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman Matt McLeod has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Men’s Tennis Rookie of the Week.
A native of Leicester, Massachusetts, McLeod went 2-0 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles competition to help Bridgewater State register a pair of wins last week over Gordon College and Little East foe Rhode Island College.
McLeod earned a 6-0, 6-1 straight-set victory at second singles in the Bears’ 6-3 road win at Gordon. He also posted a 6-2, 6-1 triumph in straight sets in BSU’s 8-1 Little East victory at RIC.
In doubles action, McLeod teamed with classmate Alex McGannon (Fairhaven, Mass.) for an 8-0 decision at third doubles against Gordon.
McLeod has won five straight singles matches as he is 5-1 on the season with a 4-0 mark at the second flight. He is also 2-2 in doubles play with a 2-0 record at third doubles.
The BSU men’s tennis team is currently 7-1 on the season and unbeaten in the LEC with a 2-0 conference mark. The Bears travels to Clark University on Tuesday afternoon to take on the Cougars at 3:30.
