Simao Mendes Named to NSCAA All-New England South Region Team

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior forward Simao Mendes has been named to the 2012 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) NCAA Division III All-New England South Region Second Team.

A resident of Brockton, Massachusetts, Mendes scored two goals and added a team-best seven assists for 11 points in 17 games this season. He ranked second in the MASCAC in assists and tied for 12th in scoring.

In 64 games over four seasons at Bridgewater State, Mendes totaled 22 goals (seven game-winners) and 20 assists for 64 points. He is fifth all-time in program history in scoring, tied for third in assists and tied for seventh in goals. Mendes earned All-MASCAC First Team honors in each of his four seasons, joining Nuno Melo (1988-1991) as the only two players in program history to accomplish the feat.

The BSU men's soccer team posted an overall record of 9-9-1 in 2012 with a 3-3-1 mark in MASCAC play. Seeded fourth at the conference tournament, the Bears earned a 2-1 victory over #5 Worcester State in the quarterfinals, before dropping a 3-1 decision to top-seeded Salem State in the semifinal round.
