2012 MASCAC Men's Soccer All-Conference Team (PDF)
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University senior forward Simao Mendes, junior defender Craig Shadduck and senior defender Luke Samperi have been selected to the 2012 Men's Soccer All-Conference Team in a vote of the league's head coaches.
Mendes is making his fourth straight appearance on the All-MASCAC First Team, while Shadduck earned second team honors a year ago. Samperi was named to the all-conference team for the first time in his career.
A resident of Brockton, Massachusetts, Mendes scored two goals and added a team-best seven assists for 11 points in 17 games this season. He currently ranks second in the MASCAC in assists and is tied for 12th in scoring.
In 64 games over four seasons at Bridgewater State, Mendes totaled 22 goals (seven game-winners) and 20 assists for 64 points. He is fifth all-time in program history in scoring, tied for third in assists and tied for seventh in goals.
Shadduck, who hails from Braintree, Massachusetts, finished the 2012 season with five goals and two assists for 12 points in 17 games. He is tied for third in the MASCAC in game-winning goals (3), tied for seventh in goals and tied for ninth in scoring.
Through 52 games over his first three seasons at BSU, Shadduck has 13 goals and nine assists to his credit for a total of 35 points. Five of his 13 goals have been game-winners.
Samperi is the only player to start all 19 games for Bridgewater State in 2012. The North Easton, Massachusetts native anchored a defensive unit which helped the Bears post four shutouts and a 1.39 goals against average.
Samperi played in 27 games, made 24 starts and had a part in eight shutouts during his two seasons with the team.
The BSU men's soccer team posted an overall record of 9-9-1 in 2012 with a 3-3-1 mark in MASCAC play. Seeded fourth at the conference tournament, the Bears earned a 2-1 victory over #5 Worcester State in the quarterfinals, before dropping a 3-1 decision to top-seeded Salem State in the semifinal round.
