TRY-OUT PROCEDURE
While each year the specifics of trying out vary, this is a general idea of how we start every year.
- We ask that you inform us that you have decided to
attend Bridgewater State College during the summer before you enter
school.
- The first team meeting will occur in the first 5-10 days
of classes beginning in September. The coaching staff will
send out an e-mail, to all those prospective student-athletes who
have informed us of their intent to play on the team, announcing
the meeting. A similar e-mail will also be sent to the
general student population, as well as signs posted around
campus. Finally, word-of-mouth from returning players is
usually an effective means of learning of the first meeting.
Most players will gather in the gym to play pick-up games in the
first day or two of the school year.
- During the first 6 weeks of classes, there may be
several team meetings in order to take care of various
administrative tasks leading up to the official start of the
season.
- Also in the first 6 weeks, returning players,
specifically the team captains, will conduct a pre-season
conditioning program in conjunction with open gym pick-up
games. While these workouts are not a requirement for trying
out, per NCAA guidelines, no prospective player who did not
participate in the pre-season captain's program has made the team
due to the fact that that player's conditioning was not up to
college athletic standards, and therefore they could not keep
up.
- On October 15th, we have our first official practice and
try-outs begin. The number of practices sessions that
try-outs last is up to the discretion of the coaching staff and the
Head Coach.
- In order to try-out, each individual must be medically cleared by the Athletic Training staff. In order to be cleared you must fulfill the Varsity Athlete Requirements. The requirements, along with downloadable forms can be found on the athletic training web site. For that web page, click HERE.
** Any medical paperwork you submit to the college for admittance DOES NOT transfer to Athletic Training; you must submit an additional copy of these medical forms to the Athletic Training office. It is strongly suggested that you keep a copy of all documentation that you submit, in case the forms you hand in are misfiled or lost. **
