Sarah Gendron Named Little East Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University sophomore defender Sarah Gendron has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Gendron helped Bridgewater State clinch the number two seed in the upcoming Little East Tournament with wins over conference opponents Salem State and Plymouth State last week. The North Dighton, Massachusetts product anchored a defensive unit that limited its opponents to two goals per game. Gendron also registered a key defensive save in the Bears’ 3-2 win over the Panthers.
In 13 games this season, Gendron has notched four defensive saves as she is tied for the team lead in that category as well as tied for fifth among the Little East Conference leaders.
The BSU field hockey team is currently 15-2 on the season and 9-1 in conference play. The Bears’ have outscored their opponents by a margin of 69-24 and the defense has given up just 1.4 goals per game. Bridgewater ranks third in the Little East in goals allowed (24) and is tied for second in shutouts (6) and tied for fourth in defensive saves (10).
In upcoming action, the Bears wrap up regular season play on Saturday when they travel to LEC foe Eastern Connecticut State University for a noontime game with the Warriors.
