BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Patrick Martin has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Co-Pitcher of the Week. Martin shares the weekly honor along with Salem State junior Ryan Hyjek.
Martin posted a 2-0 mark with 13 strikeouts and a 0.60 earned run average in 15 innings of work for the Bears last week. The Rockland, Massachusetts native allowed two runs (one earned) on eight hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over eight innings in a 7-3 nonconference win at UMass Dartmouth. He then went the distance giving up just one unearned run on four hits and a walk with six strikeouts in a 3-1 MASCAC win over Fitchburg State.
In 32 innings over five appearances this season (his first with the Bears), Martin is a perfect 4-0 with 21 strikeouts and an impressive 0.84 ERA. He has one shutout and opponents are batting .256 against him.
Martin leads the MASCAC in ERA and is tied for the conference lead in win. He is also tied for fifth in strikeouts and ranks sixth in innings pitched.
The BSU baseball team is currently 10-8-1 on the season and tied for third in the MASCAC standings with a 2-2 conference mark. The Bears, winners of four straight games, host UMass Boston on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 and Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday also at 3:30.
