Sean Riley Named MASCAC Baseball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University junior second baseman Sean Riley has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.

Riley led the Bears to their second straight MASCAC Championship and fifth overall this past week as he was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.  The Fairhaven, Massachusetts native batted .333 (4-12) with a double, a home run and three RBI, driving in pair of runs in 10-1 championship game victory over Salem State to go with a lead-off homer in 3-0 semifinal round triumph over Framingham State.  He also doubled and scored the only run of the game in a 1-0 tournament opening win over Salem.

Heading into NCAA Division III Regional Tournament play, Riley is batting .390 (62-159) with eight home runs, 25 doubles, six triples, 52 runs scored and 40 runs batted in over 43 games.  He currently leads the MASCAC in hits (62), runs, doubles, triples, home runs, total bases (123), extra base hits (39) and slugging percentage (.774), while ranking second in RBI, third in batting, fourth in on base percentage (.462) and sixth in walks (21).

So far in 2012, Riley has eclipsed BSU single-season records for doubles, extra base hits and totals bases. He is also within two of the Bears' runs scored mark of 54 set by Ed Nadeau in 1997.  Riley and fellow classmates Keane Costa (Fairhaven, Mass.), John Garabedian (Mansfield, Mass.) and David Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass) tied the school record for games played with 43.

The Bridgewater State baseball team will be making the program's 14th trip to the NCAA Tournament.  Regional brackets will be announced either Sunday evening, May 13th or Monday morning, May 14th with regional play getting underway on Wednesday, May 16th.
