BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University junior first baseman David Pierce has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Player of the Week.
A native of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, Pierce batted .565 (13-23) with five doubles, three stolen bases, seven runs scored and seven RBI in a 4-1 week for the Bears. He recorded at least two hits in each of BSU’s five games and posted a .577 on base percentage and a .783 slugging percentage.
Pierce went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI in a 13-12, 11-inning win over Curry, and 4-for-5 with a pair of doubles, two runs and an RBI in a setback to Eastern Connecticut. He singled twice and walked in a 2-0 win over Salve Regina, and capped off the week with a 4-for-9 performance at the plate with two doubles, a walk, five runs scored and three RBI in a MASCAC doubleheader sweep of Fitchburg.
In 30 games for the Bears this season, Pierce is batting .374 (43-115) with nine doubles, a triple, 17 runs scored and 24 RBI to go along with seven stolen bases. He ranks second in the MASCAC in hits and fifth in batting. Pierce is also tied for fifth in the conference in doubles and total bases (54), tied for sixth in RBI and tied for eighth in stolen bases.
In 90 games over three seasons at Bridgewater, Pierce has posted a career .339 batting average (102-301) with 20 doubles, three triples, a pair of home runs and 11 stolen bases. He has also scored 56 runs and driven in 51.
The Bridgewater State baseball team is currently 18-12 on the season and tied for first in the MASCAC standing with a 5-1 league mark. The Bears, who have won nine of their last ten games, host MCLA in a conference twinbill on Monday afternoon at one.
