Kenny Pennini Named MASCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Kenny Pennini has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

Pennini tossed the sixth recorded no-hitter in BSU baseball history as the Bears posted a 5-0 MASCAC win over MCLA last week.  The Millis, Massachusetts native struck out a career-high 12 batters in the victory over the Trailblazers and allowed just one runner to reach second base.

In six starts for the Bears this season, Pennini is currently 3-2 with four complete games and a 3.53 earned run average.  He has fanned 32 batters in 43 1/3 innings of work and opponents are batting just .213 against him.

Pennini ranks second in the MASCAC in batting average against and is tied for fourth in complete games.  He is also tenth in the conference in both innings pitched and ERA.

Pennini’s no-hitter marks the Bears’ first since 2005 when Scott Favreau and Jordan Richards combined to no-hit Daniel Webster College on March 13th in Cocoa, Florida (a 12-0 BSU win).

The Bridgewater State baseball team carries a 23-12 overall record into the final week of the regular season.  The Bears, who have won eight straight games and 14 of their last 15, are alone atop the MASCAC standings with a 9-1 conference mark.

In upcoming action, Bridgewater hosts Massachusetts Maritime Academy in a MASCAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon starting at two.
