BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior right-hander Kenny Pennini has been selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for the games of April 16 to April 22.
Pennini tossed the sixth recorded no-hitter in BSU baseball history as the Bears posted a 5-0 MASCAC win over MCLA on Patriots Day. The Millis, Massachusetts native struck out a career-high 12 batters in the victory over the Trailblazers and allowed just one runner to reach second base.
In seven starts for the Bears this season, Pennini is currently 4-2 with five complete games and a 3.40 earned run average. He has fanned 37 batters in 50 1/3 innings of work and opponents are batting just .229 against him.
Heading into this week, Pennini ranked second in the MASCAC in batting average against and was tied for fourth in complete games. He was also tenth in the conference in both innings pitched and ERA.
Pennini’s no-hitter marks the Bears’ first since 2005 when Scott Favreau and Jordan Richards combined to no-hit Daniel Webster College on March 13th in Cocoa, Florida (a 12-0 BSU win).
The Bridgewater State baseball team carries a 25-12 overall record into the final three games of the regular season. The Bears, who have won ten straight games and 16 of their last 17, are alone atop the MASCAC standings with a 11-1 conference mark.
