BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – For the secon time this season, Bridgewater State University senior right-hander Jim Balboni has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Balboni, who hails from Townsend, Massachusetts, fired a complete-game, two-hit shutout and fanned ten in a 6-0 blanking of MASCAC foe Westfield State last week. He allowed just one base runner to reach second base in the contest.
In six appearances for the Bears this season, Balboni is 3-3 with five complete games, one shutout and a 2.91 earned run average. He has struck out 38 batters in 43 1/3 innings of work, and opponents are batting just .258 against him.
Balboni is currently tied for the MASCAC lead in complete games and is second overall in strikeouts. He is also tied for second in the conference in games started, ranks fourth in ERA and ninth in batting average against, and is tied for sixth in wins.
In 33 appearances for the Bears over the last four seasons, Balboni has produced a 17-4 win-loss record with 12 complete games, 106 strikeouts and a 2.98 ERA in 166 1/3 innings. He is presently fourth all-time at Bridgewater State in career earned run average and fifth in both wins and complete games.
The Bridgewater State baseball team is 14-11 overall on the season and tied for second in the MASCAC standings with a 3-1 conference record. In upcoming action, the Bears host Curry College on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30.
